Emergency Response Plan & Site Assessment

What happens at an assessment?

  • Review Emergency Response Plan
  • Provide insight and suggested recommendations

What happens during the site assessment?

  • LEPC Public Safety members will visit the facility and evaluate the following:
    • Incident command staging area
    • Employee evacuation staging area
    • Exits
    • Location of substances

We will review any proposed plan changes after completing the plan and site assessment. The individual facility is then responsible for following up on any recommendations.

What is an Emergency Response Plan?

An Emergency Response Plan (ERP) is required for all facilities with over-threshold planning quantities of extremely hazardous substances.

The plan must:

  • Identify the substance.
  • List transportation routes of the substance.
  • Describe response procedures for facility owners and operations, local emergency personnel, and local medical personnel.
  • List the community emergency coordinator and facility emergency coordinators.
  • Outline release notification procedures.
  • Include methods for determining when releases have occurred and identifying the affected areas or populations.
  • List the community and industry resources available for response.
  • Outline evacuation plans.
  • Describe the training program for emergency response and medical personnel.
  • Describe the methods and schedules for exercising the emergency plan.
